re thinking yazd
2020y
The project proposes the redevelopment of fragmented areas on the edge of the historic center of Yazd, near the UNESCO-protected Bagh-e Dolat Abad. Its aim is to introduce a new housing complex and a public building that enhance the surrounding urban fabric while remaining sensitive to the cultural, spatial, and environmental identity of the city.
The design is grounded in a thorough analysis of social, climatic, architectural, and structural conditions, emphasizing contextual integration, sustainability, seismic safety, and the use of local materials. By combining urban-scale strategies with architectural detailing, the project seeks to create a contemporary yet coherent addition to the historic environment.
Through a layered methodology—including site research, typological study, modeling, and visual communication—the proposal delivers a balanced architectural intervention that respects Yazds heritage while improving the quality of its public and residential spaces.
